SUNSET DRIVE IN

At their heyday in 1958 there were
112 Drive-In Theaters in Tennessee . Nationwide there were
over 3000. In 1999 Tennessee had only 14 operating,
and the number nationwide had dwindled to less than 800.

Some of the drive-ins in my hometown (Knoxville, Tn.) were:

Sunset Drive In
Family Drive In
Skyway Drive In
Chapman Highway Drive In
Knoxville Drive In
River Breeze Drive In
Capri Drive In
Twin Aire Drive In

Here are a few of the movies
we saw if we were at the drive in with our
favorite girl and saw any of the movie:

Bad Day At Black Rock

A Man Called Peter

It Came From Beneath The Sea

This Island Earth

The Night of the Hunter

Helen of Troy

Alexander The Great

23 Paces to Baker Street

The Werewolf

The Ten Commandments

Julie

The Incredible Shrinking Man

I Was A Teenage Werewolf

The Blob

Love Is A Many Splendored Thing

Rebel Without A Cause

Marty

The King and I

The Searchers

Jailhouse Rock

Bridge on the River Kwai

Thunder Road

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

Vertigo

Ben Hur

Rio Bravo

Whether it was after the movie, a ballgame, or if you were just out 'cruisin', no evening was complete without a trip to your local drive in restaurant. Do you remember?
